Google announced its acquisition of Typhoon Studios, the game developer behind Journey to the Savage Planet, for its cloud gaming service arm Stadia Games and Entertainment.
Founded by Alex Hutchinson and Reid Schneider, all 26 members of the Montreal-based independent studio will join Google’s Stadia team, which is also based in Montreal.
Despite the change in ownership, the release date for Journey to the Savage Planet will push through on January 28 across multiple platforms. After the release of its debut title, all games created by Typhoon Studios will be released exclusively for Stadia.
Google’s acquisition of Typhoon Studios is in line of its strategy to add more titles to Stadia’s exclusive game library.
